Inside the rustic interior of an old dairy farm…
Opened on 4th July 2020, The Milking Parlour is the Tollgate Brewery Tap, located within the rustic interior of an old dairy farm. It overlooks the brewery and is set amidst the stunning surroundings of the National Trust’s Calke Abbey estate.
Open year-round, with ample outdoor drinking space offering views of the fields and historic outbuildings of the old Southwood House dairy farm, The Milking Parlour serves a wide range of Tollgate cask and keg beers. We also offer bottle off-sales and a selection of merchandise in our shop. In case of rain, there are several covered and heated areas with seating, including the Milking Parlour itself (complete with a cozy log burner), the neighbouring Cow Shed, and the heated Threshing Barn.
Enjoy wood-fired sourdough pizzas made on-site daily, using dough produced by Ashby’s own Julia’s Bakery.
Family-friendly with a children’s play area, free parking, and a welcoming atmosphere for well-behaved dogs (on leads), walkers, and cyclists. Hot drinks are also available.
Named in The Daily Telegraph’s Weekend supplement as one of the UK’s top brewery taps to visit, The Milking Parlour is a must-visit destination.
Check out our events page and social media for updates on news and events, including our annual Beer Festival during the Spring Bank Holiday weekend and our Cider & Sausage Festival in September. For brewery tours, visit our shop page.
Proudly a Visit Leicester “Taste The Place” favourite.

WHATS ON...Getting here on foot
As the Milking Parlour is not on a bus route and some of you may not want to drive, we have worked with the Melbourne Footpaths Group to produce several routes from nearby towns and villages to us.
