Inside the rustic interior of an old dairy shed…
Opened on 4th July 2020, The Milking Parlour is the Tollgate Brewery Tap, inside the rustic interior of an old dairy shed, overlooking the brewery itself and set within the stunning surrounds of the National Trusts Calke Abbey estate.
Open all year around with is ample outside drinking space overlooking fields and the historic outbuildings of the old Southwood House dairy farm. Serving a wide range of Tollgate cask and keg beer as well as bottle off-sales and merchandise in the shop. In case it rains, we have several areas of covered and heated space with seating in the Milking Parlour itself, which has a rustic log burner, or the neighbouring Cow Shed and heated Threshing Barn. Serving wood-fired sour dough pizzas made onsite with dough produced from Ashby’s own Julias Bakery every day.
Family friendly with a children play area, free parking available, dogs (well behaved and on leads), walkers and cyclists welcome too. Hot drinks available too. Named in The Daily Telegraph’s Weekend supplement – The Ultimate British Beer Lover’s Buck List as one of eight brewery taps to visit in the UK.
See our events page and social media for updates on news and events including our annual Beer Festival on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend and our Cider & Sausage Festival in September.

WHATS ON...Getting here on foot
As the Milking Parlour is not on a bus route and some of you may not want to drive, we have worked with the Melbourne Footpaths Group to produce several routes from nearby towns and villages to us.
